Preschool Learning Activities for Busy Moms
Learning activities for preschoolers may be the last thing on a busy mom's mind or agenda when one has to coup with the daily endless chores. If play is work to your child then daily chores can be playing time for a busy mom with her kids too.
Learning time need not be confined to a certain time or a specific place. The interacting moment we have with our children provides us with excellent opportunity to teach them and develop their skills. Here are some excellent tip for busy moms - turn our daily interaction or household chores time into learning time for our kids.
Kitchen as a Learning Playground
Kitchen is a great place for learning. Give some safe and unbreakable utensils to your child. Let him figure out the different sizes of pots, pans, plates and bowls.
Sharpen his fine motor skills by pouring beans or rice from one cup to another or sort out different color beans. These are creative hand eye coordination games too.
Slip in some simple reading by reading up ingredients in recipes book together while planning meals.
Shop and Learn
Children love to help out and be involved in mom's daily chores.
Bath Time Rhyme
Rhyme set the foundation for language development. Here is a rhyme I did while drying him up after a bath….
After my bath
I try, try, try.
To wipe myself
till I'm dry, dry, dry.
Hands to wipe,
fingers and toes.
Two wet legs
and a shiny nose.
Just think how much
less time I'd take,
if I were a dog and could
shake, shake, shake.
I can assure you a fun time giggling away with the rhyme.
Here is another rhyme you can play with your child on his bed...with a long bolster as the imaginary boat.
Row Row Row Your Boat (Rock forward and backward)
Gently Down a stream
Merrily Merrily Merrily
Life is but a dream (All fall off from one side of the bolster)
All children love music. Sing to the child instead of simply reading the rhymes. There are more nursery rhymes I did with my child to spur his imagination.

We need to provide a variety of preschool learning activities each day so as to give our children a wide experience to help their learning development.
Children like repetition. Pick a short story, read to them daily for about a week. As time goes by, start playing “Fill in the Blank” with them. Pause when you read and let them complete the sentence. I did it with my kids using the story of Peter Pan.
You can also read them story book which comes with stickers. They can fill in the blank using stickers to relate words with items.
Do include preschool phonics activities. It lays the foundation for preschoolers to learn to read and write.
As they progress, continue to maintain their reading interest with more guided reading activities.
Teaching preschoolers to recognize letter is not limited to flashcards. Many of us may try to get our kids to memorize letters using flashcards but active learning through involvement yield better result. Creating your own simple games and activities does not incur much cost either.
Time is abstract to preschoolers. Though children at this age may not know how to tell time but it should not deter us from teaching them about time. We can apply the right tactics for young kids to learn how to tell time. Fun clock games and telling time activities are helpful too.
Mathematical concept is more than simple counting. You will be surprise the various concepts our young child can learn about data handling, sorting, estimation from some simple math activities.
Identifying living versus non-living serves as the foundation for kids to study about animals and living things. Many practical hands-on science activities such as observing creatures, digging in the garden and visit to farms are active learning opportunities for preschoolers. Such activities can be entertaining for both parents and kids.
Science is such a broad subject. Depending on the interest of your child, there are many science activities or safe and simple experiments we can carry out with our children without expensive equipment.
